Salute To Nick Provenzano Thursday, September 18th 5pm – 7:30pm

As Chairman of the Law & Justice Committee of the McHenry County Board, Nick Provenzano has led the fight in support of the 2nd Amendment and gun owner’s rights. His recent leadership to introduce the Pro 2nd Amendment Resolution led to a unanimous vote of support by all 24 county board members of our gun owners rights. Nick’s leadership came at a difficult time in Northern Illinois and came prior to the Supreme Court ruling upholding 2nd Amendment rights to individual citizens. Nick stood up to Chicago politicians and the Governor at a time when it wasn’t politically correct.

Now Nick needs our help as he faces an Anti-gun Democrat challenger for his County Board seat in the fall election. This opponent will surely use Nick’s defense of 2nd Amendment Rights as a tool to rally the Anti-gun radicals to defeat Nick in November. We can’t let that happen and now is our time to come together to help Nick’s campaign.

Please join with the Sportsman’s Association at a fundraising dinner on Nick’s behalf on September 18.

August Action Shooting Sports Association Event Recap.

Wilmot CafeWhat a gorgeous day to be outside shooting - The sun was shining and the sky was blue with happy, puffy white clouds! Beforehand, Jerry G. and I met at Linda's Wilmot Cafe, which serves up a great bit of breakfast fare in a friendly atmosphere, and then headed on over to Bristol for the match.

The guys at ASSA set up the night before and coach new shooters through a safety/Q&A session, then settle in to a little practice. They generally run two courses of fire. Both COF's are geared towards pistols, one of which can be shot with a pistol caliber carbine (MP5's and UZI's are ok!!), while the other is setup with a shotgun section.

Jerry G. ran his ancient, shot-out ;) - what is it now, 70,000 rds? - Para hicap .45 and I, again, ran my Advantage Arms .22 conversion kit (how much does ammo cast again?!?!) on my GLOCK frame.

We broke in to two sqauds and headed to our respective courses of fire.

First stage started out with the pistol - engage targets while seated, then run to some cover engage a plate rack, reload and engage a popper that obscured a clay-pigeon. Break the pigeon, then carry an ammo can and shoot one handed at four targets. Easy enough...

Seated

Carbine shooters ran the same course, firing from seated, then standing to engage targest at ~25 yards. Pistol shooters could opt to shoot the pistol course of fire again.

 Stop the Pigeon!

The next stages started with a 9 rounds shotgun course of fire, after which we transitioned to pistol and shot a good mix of steel and paper while on the move.

Finally, we were run through the stress shoot-off course by shooting the 6-shot plate rack using pistols for time - I think Jerry was ~10 seconds. Me an my soft recoiling .22 cleaned up the competition at 6 + "hope and change" seconds...

In Writing - Obama Supports a AWB.

He says he supports the 2nd Amendment, but he's for an "Assault Weapon Ban" because he states that they're used for criminal purposes, even through the FBI states that they aren't.

Dear *.:

Thank you for contacting me regarding gun policy. I appreciate hearing your perspective on this important issue.

I respect the Second Amendment and responsible gun ownership. But I am also concerned about the human consequences of guns falling into the wrong hands and being misused. I do not find objectionable the goal of keeping firearms out of the hands of children, terrorists, gang members and criminals in general. The question for me is how to best accomplish that goal without abridging the rights of hunters, sportsmen, and other legitimate gun owners. As I consider gun legislation, I will work to find the appropriate balance between these two objectives.

For example, Senator David Vitter (R-LA), in response to complaints about the confiscation of firearms during the recovery from Hurricane Katrina, offered an amendment that would prohibit such confiscations in areas hit by natural disaster. I voted with Senator Vitter on this amendment. On the other hand, I support the re-imposition of the ban on the sale of assault weapons that expired in September 2004 because I believe these guns are used primarily for criminal rather than sporting intent. I also support requiring gun manufacturers to install child safety locks on all of their products.

Again, I have always believed that the Second Amendment protects the right of individuals to bear arms, but I also identify with the need for crime-ravaged communities to save their children from the violence that plagues our streets through common-sense, effective safety measures. I do not believe that these two principles – the individual right and the rights of a community to maintain public safety – are contradictory.

On June 26, 2008, the Supreme Court endorsed that same view. Although it ruled that the D.C. gun ban went too far, Justice Scalia himself acknowledged that this right is not absolute and subject to reasonable regulations enacted by local communities to keep their streets safe.

Anyone who lives in a large urban center like Chicago is aware of the terrible toll gun violence is taking on American society. As a statewide elected official who has traveled our state extensively, I appreciate how strongly sportsmen, hunters and collectors feel about their rights to own firearms. But I am convinced we can more aggressively attack the problem of gun violence without interfering with the rights of responsible gun owners.

Again, thank you for contacting me. I look forward to keeping in touch.

Sincerely,

Barack Obama
United States Senator

Gustav: National Guard Exchange Gunfire with Looters.

Just FYI - This is why it is good to be prepared in a disaster. If looters are willing to fire on the National Guard, what makes anyone think that they'll play nice with mere residents/civilians?

BATON ROUGE -- Three National Guard troops exchanged gunfire with unidentified assailants last night while protecting hurricane-relief supply trucks in Ville Platte, Gov. Bobby Jindal said this morning.

No injuries were reported in the incident, which occurred between midnight and 1 a.m. in an area dark from loss of power.

The soldiers were guarding FEMA supply trucks that were in a staging area awaiting deployment to a goods distribution site, Louisiana National Guard spokesman Mike Kazmierzak said. Guard members normally accompany FEMA logistics operations, he said.

UK Bans Angelina Jolie "Wanted" Movie Posters

In the UK, it is not PC to show a gun - and therefore to get you in line they'll censor your art, etc.

From Reuters:

Jolie posters not "Wanted" in UK, watchdog rules
LONDON (Reuters) - Angelina Jolie might ooze Hollywood glamour, but if she's armed and looking dangerous, the actress is not welcome in Britain.

Britain's media watchdog, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), has banned two posters of Jolie promoting the film "Wanted" after upholding complaints that the images of the gun-toting actress glamorized the use of guns and violence.

While I'll agree that I think there are far too many movies glamorizing violence and gun play, I don't think that sweeping anything under the rug by banning it is good sense.

More Kirk-Bloomberg Thinking.

RINO!

We roll out our handy "RINO ban-ner" again since Mark Kirk is at it again!

Kirk unrolled H.R. 6664 which seeks to close the "firesale" loophole...

What is the firesale loophole?

Under current law, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) issues Federal Firearms Licenses (FFLs) to qualifying gun dealers, which are required to conduct background checks on potential buyers.  A license may be revoked if a dealer willfully violates the law or engages in criminal activity.  But due to the fire sale loophole, after a license is revoked the dealer may legally sell excess inventory as a “private seller” without conducting any background checks.

Sounds sinister, right?

But it's a sham, folks.

Here's an analogy: imagine you own an Italian/pizza restaurant which has a bar. You get closed down for some violation, say a health code violation do to bad plumbing. Your friends know the real deal and know it isn't roaches or improper storage, but your competition takes over and there is no way you'll be able to get ahead.

So, you're left with all this food and liquor. What to do?

Being a smart entreprenuer, since it is close to football season you decide to throw non-stop weekend parties at your place and serve the leftovers (pasta and pizza) and beverages (beer, mainly - some harder stuff...).

Since it is your property and your house, you're able to do that.

This is almost exactly the same for many Gunstore owners - the BATFE has shut down numerous dealers on minor technicalities, such as clerical errors. If the owner decides to close the business, then they're left with a boat-load of inventory which they can sell face to face to law-abiding owners if they reside in a states that permits private sales.

This is what Kirk wants to assail - your right to broker your property as you see fit.

Don't believe me? Just check out what Supreme Court lawyer, David Hardy has to say about the BATFE (and Red's Trading Post in Idaho). To boot, the Inspector General is actually looking at the BATFE for possible abuses...

John Lott Commenting on Obama - Audio Clip

From John Lott's blog (Check it out), we have an audio clip of John Lott talking about his experiences with Obama at the University of Chicago Law School. Just to clarify, Obama taught there as an adjunct faculty member and was not on a tenure track...

Audio is in ".mov" (Aka Apple Quicktime) format. It's about 15 minutes.

Listen here.

John Lott Commenting on Obama - Washington Times Op-Ed.

The Washington Times ran an op-ed by John Lott calling Obama's position on the 2nd Amendment into question. Read the whole thing here.

The day the Supreme Court struck down Washington, D.C.'s gun ban, Mr. Obama claimed the court's decision merely ratified his own position. He told Fox News he had "said consistently that I believe that the Second Amendment is an individual right, and that was the essential decision that the Supreme Court came down on." So, has Mr. Obama consistently supported individuals' rights to own guns and opposed the D.C. handgun ban? Last November, Mr. Obama's campaign told the Chicago Tribune that "Obama believes the D.C. handgun law is constitutional." After the Illinois senator's statement supporting the Supreme Court striking down the ban, the campaign quickly disowned the Chicago Tribune quote as a staffer's "inartful attempt" to characterize his position.

Combine this with the following:

A candidate questionnaire shows that Mr. Obama supported a ban on handguns in 1996. In 1998, he backed a ban on the sale of all semiautomatic guns (a ban that would encompass the vast majority of guns sold in the U.S.) In 2004, he advocated banning gun sales within five miles of a school or park (essentially a ban on all guns sold in almost all the states). Possibly, even more importantly, he served on the board of the Joyce Foundation, probably the largest private funder of anti-gun and pro-ban groups and research in the country.

I can respect Democratic candidates that put their money where their mouth is regarding "gun issues" - people like Brain Schwitzer (Gov. Montana) and Bill Richardson (Gov. of New Mexico) -  but Obama's stance is lock-step with the those of the Chicago political machine.

Folks out there reading this from states other than Illinois: You see what we're up against here because of Daley's political influence. We're an entire county away and we can't escape it! Stop for a moment and imagine how bad it'd be if someone like that influenced the entire country...

Wyoming Hunter Arrested in Denver During the DNC!

Wow...

Wyoming hunter Joe Calanchini was allegedly preparing to depart on an African safari but was arrested in the Denver Hilton today. He was carrying a rifle case at the time and since Nancy Pelosi was staying in the same hotel, they arrested him.

According to NBC 9 News of Denver:

Police say Calanchini had permits for the rifles, but did not have concealed permits to carry two pistols that were found in his luggage. Calanchini says he forgot they were in there.

Last I checked, it isn't illegal to carry pistols in luggage... Regardless, something stinks here - either this guy isn't checking out or they're smearing him.

In case you forgot who Biden is...

He thinks gun owners are crazy. He helped write the original AWB!

He's Obama's VP pick...

Joliet Gun-Buyback...

 From the Herald News:

"You'll hear all kinds of criticism that (buybacks) are ineffective in reducing violent crime, but there's no way to tell what positives can come from this," Hayes said. "There's got to be a case out there where a gun that was turned in could've easily ended up in the hands of a criminal."

Boy, somebody's got nothing, eh?

More Progressive Texas Thinking.

From the AP:

Texas Gov. Rick Perry indicated Monday that he supports a school district's decision to allow teachers and staff to pack guns for protection when classes start this month.

But the money quote is:

"There's a lot of incidents where that would have saved a number of lives," Perry said after a news conference in Austin.

Heller Finally Allowed to Register Handgun in DC

 From the AP:

Dick Heller walked out of D.C. police headquarters Monday, clutching a yellow firearms registration certificate stamped "approved." He gave the thumbs-up sign, grinned and said, "Victory!"

So what did he register?

He won approval to keep a .22-caliber revolver at home after coming to police headquarters in July to be fingerprinted and take a firearms proficiency test. Police approved the weapon after completing a background check.

No mention if he was dropping the suit against the city after failing to be allowed to register his service pistol.
