August Action Shooting Sports Association Event Recap.
What a gorgeous day to be outside shooting - The sun was shining and the sky was blue with happy, puffy white clouds! Beforehand, Jerry G. and I met at Linda's Wilmot Cafe, which serves up a great bit of breakfast fare in a friendly atmosphere, and then headed on over to Bristol for the match.
The guys at ASSA set up the night before and coach new shooters through a safety/Q&A session, then settle in to a little practice. They generally run two courses of fire. Both COF's are geared towards pistols, one of which can be shot with a pistol caliber carbine (MP5's and UZI's are ok!!), while the other is setup with a shotgun section.
Jerry G. ran his ancient, shot-out ;) - what is it now, 70,000 rds? - Para hicap .45 and I, again, ran my Advantage Arms .22 conversion kit (how much does ammo cast again?!?!) on my GLOCK frame.
We broke in to two sqauds and headed to our respective courses of fire.
First stage started out with the pistol - engage targets while seated, then run to some cover engage a plate rack, reload and engage a popper that obscured a clay-pigeon. Break the pigeon, then carry an ammo can and shoot one handed at four targets. Easy enough...

Carbine shooters ran the same course, firing from seated, then standing to engage targest at ~25 yards. Pistol shooters could opt to shoot the pistol course of fire again.

The next stages started with a 9 rounds shotgun course of fire, after which we transitioned to pistol and shot a good mix of steel and paper while on the move.
Finally, we were run through the stress shoot-off course by shooting the 6-shot plate rack using pistols for time - I think Jerry was ~10 seconds. Me an my soft recoiling .22 cleaned up the competition at 6 + "hope and change" seconds...
